Trains
Over the weekend I stated to make a card train to test my plans. I got the plans out of this grate book called Miniature Locomotive Construction and it has everything you need to make a train but I had to modify the plans to work with my chase off a secondhand train the difference is that the books plans are for a chase with the motor at the back my chase motor is at the front so here are so photos of all my prototypes:
My own google glass
I made sides and taped them together. Now to see behind you I needed some type of mirror I found a little one and glued it in:
Now you can look behind and even better you can over lay the picture behind you over the picture in front. The next steep is to try and get a projector or a small screen to fit at the back here are some photos of a large projector projecting in to the glass:Sunday, 16 March 2014

Model making to test techniques
Model making to test techniques
This is a model I
made from scratch to test scenery and the water for my train set.
First I made the basic shape of the bank out of
polystyrene then added plaster cloth over the top to add a hard shell. I panted
in the water and then added modpoge glue gloss to give the water depth. Slowly
I added the scenery like the pier and the path as well as the static grass. The
pier was made out of old ice block sticks and thick skewers and then panted.

MAKING: Chain-mail
To make chain-mail you will need:
Heavy gauge wire
Dowl or rod mettle or wood
Drill and bits
Bolt cutters, tin snips or heavy duty wire cutters
(Optional thick gloves)
To make the mail start by drilling in to the end of the rod if it is mettle to may need to hammer or file a small section flat so you can drill the hole. Then in insert the wire in to the hole and attach the drill to the end so you can wind the wire on however you can also do this by hand whether you chose to use a hand drill or just your hand. When turning the rod slowly feed the wire on to the rod at this stage you may choose to use gloves so you do not start to rub blisters. Once you have done this you should have a very long spring shaped tube that you can now cut up to make the links.
To cut it in to links you will need to use you snips of choice to cut straight down the spring you should get lots of little links now you can start the pattern.
Thread 4 links on to 1 by twisting the link open after that close the link spread the links out so that look like this
Make 2 or 3 more and start putting the together like this
but be patience and use thick wire the wire I used was too thin a coursed
problems.

My new box
Over the weekend I made a box for my pen and ink pen. First I carved out a space for my pen and a couple for my nibs. I lined the in side of the crevasse with soft foam. That allowed me to have easy access to the pen and nibs but tucked away when the box was closed. I made the box top and bottom out of an old bed post that I had laying around. I had some old hinges so I attached them to the back using glue and self tapping wood screws. For the latch I found the middle of the top and bottom of the box and added a screw to each, so I could attach the latch. I made the latch out of brass tub and bent it in to a e shape then secured it to the box.
If I made this again I would:
Practice my carving skills to do a better job.
